What are your up and download speeds?

Best speeds are when my neighbors are on vacation. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Meanwhile, about half my town has theirs it seems but I’ve been getting this for 5 months.

That’s some great speed @Chaz!
No fibre optic available in my area. :frowning:

I have Gigabit internet service but ever since I got a 10 Gig NIC and a CAT 7 ethernet cord to my router I’m squeezing an extra 200 Mb out of it! Still crappy upload speed though …

This thing tears through large downloads like butter.

I can’t remember the baud rate we used to upload our programs to our CNC machines in the 1980’s and 1990’s but seeing these speeds reminds me of how slow it was to upload a program from a computer to the machine using an RS232 interface. Lol, I could practically read each line of code as it was shown on the screen during the upload. Still one heck of a lot faster than using the control panel to type them in though. RpS_blink

Prolly 300 baud. This is my first modem (Pocket Modem) that I had to take a subway to downtown Toronto to buy when I was a kid …

Man, I was so stoked on the ride back looking at that box! This tech really fascinated me at an early age.

Really

I’m happy with mine, considering that the fastest satellite plan available to me is 25/5, but that ping though!!! Damn GEO sat

You know you’re old when you can remember these (the phone and the modem):

modem

My brother who has a BSc in Computer Engineering and a Masters of IT still has his. He was using it up until a few years ago when they decommissioned the old analogue phone lines/switches in the exchange where he lives.

You also know you’re old when this was your first memory ‘stick’

You know you are really old when one of the new grads at work is shown one of these and says “cool someone 3D printed a save icon”

Optic fibre made it to my house, now I just need to wait for them to finish work on the street. Judging by the neighbouring streets where work has already finished it should take maybe 4-5 weeks before I can get my Gbit connection

In the meantime this isn’t too bad:

Me and @tempusmurphy are LUCKY if we get 3mbs. Like, on the brief times it actually hits 3mbs it makes me smile as its flat out.

The UK absolutely sucks.

It would be quicker to learn to code and just make the bloody games myself.

80gig download makes me very very upset

Vic, it is 3MBps or 3Mbps?

because I just tested my line and got 23Mbps (14ms) what could be roughly I guess around 3MBps download. (hope I have the shortcuts right)

the flip side is I have fiber optic available from another provider but sticking to my actual provider and speed as I cant see any difference in 25Mbps and 250Mbps in case I have to pay 50% more. not downloading that much these days anyway. plus I trained my actual provider to act like they have customer service and like they want to provide fair prices. not really keen to train another provider again

same here, wanted to fly a little IL2GB yesterday but after I saw 11,5GB pending update download I dismissed that thoughts and went to play MSFS instead
