Finished Hairy today. Episode 4 spans episode 5 and 6 as well. What a hot friggin’ Hairy mess LOL!
Episode 3 was “Fingers”! Good old Jack “Fingers” Ensch! It was cut a bit short but luckily I had listened to his whole story on the Fighter Pilot Podcast episodes 052 and 053 …
Just started that JRE #1577 with Terry Virts too … this guy is fantastic! First half hour of the usual three hours (!) he’s talking about Astronauting and Test Piloting! Can’t wait to get back into it tomorrow. This might be one of my all time favorites.
The part of the story that I remembered was when both of Jack’s elbows were dislocated and both his forearms were shoved half way up is upper arms!!! NASTY! He lost his thumb which is why they call him Fingers but I would’ve called him T-Rex.
Here’s a pretty dark but powerful and enlightening story from Marcus Capone (DEVGRU) and his wife about healing the brain both psychologically and physiologically with psychedelic drugs (Ibogaine in his case) …
I’m just a simple civilian podcast listener who has never even come close to having the problems this guy has had but I really feel bad for guys coming off combat deployments and trying to transition to civilian life with “Operator Syndrome” … and Big Pharma is failing them miserably.
Solidly recommend 10 Percent True, Aircrew Interview, Low Level Hell, and Afterburn on the aviation front-in no particular order. I particularly enjoy host Steve’s interview style on 10 percent true.
Nice! Listening to Lex and Roger now on my way up North. Roger and Barry … wow … quite the characters to say the least! Piloting skills through the roof though! They knew their airplanes!
I listened to The Merge trailer a week or two ago … sounds too scripted for my tastes. I’m not really into overproduced podcasts … prefer off the cuff conversation like The Fighter Pilot Podcast.
To my surprise I found out Jack Carr has his own podcast called “Danger Close”. First one I listened to today was with Clint Smith, Vietnam Vet etc. Man, back in the day the Marines on the ground were maniacs rolling DANGER close with F4 Phantom bombing run support. Totally insane. It’s amazing anyone made it out of Vietnam alive.
THIS you’ve gotta watch. Loved the book (it’s inspired by). Very good friend of mine flew with/against him. Said “Paco” was a “classic”. This interview proves that. Ah, the good old days…
