No harm done, the show deserves a double mention. I like it “real”, like in no Orcs, Aliens or levitating humans. The old man delivers.
Watched this last night. If you like “f with my family I kill all you” it’s pretty good.
The main actor is really good, and it has a lot of dark humor - which I enjoyed.
Dating myself, but then it’s hard not to. I took my wife on our first date to The Ghost and the Darkness.
I love the "Wrath of the just man"type of movies…
I took mine to First Knight. Doesn’t seem that long ago, except to the people out of college now who were born after it showed up on home video!
Sweet! The Terminal List is up on Amazon Prime! I’ve been waiting for this one … based on former Navy Seal Jack Carr’s book …
I heard a lot of the cast are former SF so you know it’s going to be on point …
Ugh, how the heck did a SERIES get greenlit based on that?! Made the mistake of reading the first book over Thanksgiving at my brother in law’s a few years back- I still want those brain cells back.
Wow, the first episodes ending was brutal.
I’ll check the second and then decide if it’s for me. Call me weak, but I think the dog would have been enough to make the point (John Wick reference).
I heard some unkind reviews as well. Not that the series is poorly done, but rather that the source material is wanting. Something along the lines of “the author posits that excessive force applied almost indiscriminately is a valid solution just because the problem is serious” (I have paraphrased that, perhaps incorrectly, but it gets the gist of what I read).
Going with the John Wick comparison, where he definitely goes above and beyond in the first film compared to the transgression (yes, car and dog are a big deal, but worth over 3 dozen lives? Even of slimy criminal types?), this story seemed to follow the same idea but against perhaps less straightforward “baddies” than Wick dealt with. Sure, they might not have deserved it for what they did to him, but they did deserve it for other crimes.
Makes me wonder if these books were written with a hope to get turned into a film or TV series where the big bucks are because real operators seemed put off/disgusted/offended by the books in how they were portrayed?
TL;DR Carr sold out his profession to get a big pay day by implying they are far more Hollywood action heroes than they are in reality.
I can add to the rant based on the source material, but that’s for a different forum altogether.
At this point, if you haven’t written a book and aren’t appearing on speaking tours, were you really even a SEAL?
At least he’s not also selling terrible beer, right?
What have I gotten myself into?
I’m three episodes in and it IS a pretty FUBAR situation so far but I’m likin’ it!
For better or worse, the Navy has always understood the recruiting power of mass media better than the rest of the services, IMHO. They seem to encourage and cultivate a relationship with Hollywood. Maybe because in a large part, the center of its hip universe is Southern California.
I was visiting a friend who was a Coronado native. We were lying on the beach one day watching S-3s come and go from North Island and this big muscular dude comes running up. My friend says, he’s running for mayor and will introduce himself as SEAL team six. Sure enough he sticks his hand out and says, “Hi, I’m SEAL Team Six.” OK. He was retired from the Navy and really was running for mayor. Not sure how that turned out.
Undoubtedly, there are some more professional among them and I really appreciate their accomplishments and sacrifices. A few really like to beat their chests though. I had another friend who was one of the founding members of the Night Stalkers, flew Black Hawks in all kinds of covert ops in bad places like Panama and Beirut. He never once mentioned any of it until he retired, and that was only when I begged him over beers.
Double feature night. The Big Sleep (1978) with Candy Clark, Sarah Miles, & Joan Collins (Robert Mitchum) and Dead Pool (2016) with Morena Baccarin (Ryan Reynolds)
.
The Big Sleep
Had not seen the Bogart and Bacall version so this one kept me in suspense for most of the movie. Being a Robert Mitchum fan helps though.
Deadpool
Started watching not expecting much and I got hooked into it. Will definitely give Deadpool 2 a look see now
Wheels.
just binged The Boys season 3 … certainly a ride … from the opening miniutes all the way to the end … cant wait for season 4
A really good season! - am going through a second time to see the subtle things I missed.
Finally saw Top Gun 2. Got to watch it with two dear friends who live and breathe aviation.
It was far better than it had any right to be. Excellent. The flying was awesome, felt and looked far more realistic than in the first one. Laser code 1688 lol! Yeah it worked for me, if only they had swapped the ancient SAMs for SA-15s and not dubbed in “ratatata” for a gattling gun sound, it would have been perfect.
The writing and acting were fine as well. These people were loving their job and it showed. The sparks between Jen and Tom were believable and they still look great.
And they flew a Tomcat. Oh yeah!
One of the best comedy classics IMHO. I loved it. You will also like Deadpool 2.
