What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

One wonders how one becomes a “relatively green” executive officer on a nuclear submarine after passing all the training courses including nuclear engineering school and the Submarine CO course while also serving the required number of tours as a more junior watchkeeper?

I think the Rotten Tomatoes synopsis is a bit misleading. I guess relatively allows for a lot of interpretation, but in the movie it’s more that Hackman portrays a very experienced commander, and in relation everybody else are inexperienced. But in the end, he recommends his XO for a boat command, so…
Great movie, nevertheless. :+1:

Crimson Tide is one of the rare films I saw twice in the theater. The 2nd time was a dollar theater but still…

It just works so well.

I have just finished watching Episode 3 and it has to be some of the funniest, laugh out loud 30 minutes of TV I have seen in quite some time.

OH. MY. GOD.
I watched “Everything, Everywhere, All at once” last night and it blew me absolutely away.

Especially in this phase of my life, it was the strongest, most cathartic experience I’ve had by watching a movie.

I am smitten by literally every aspect of it and it’s no surprise, to me, that it won so many accolades all around the world…

This evening we just watched another oldie - Duel At Diablo - I always loved that score!

If Duel at Diablo is the movie I remember it had James Garner, Sidney Poitier, & Dennis Weaver in it.

Everything, Everywhere All At Once fun fact: the man at the very beginning with the slightly squeaky voice is the actor that as a kid played Shortround in Indiana Jones and Data in The Goonies.

That’s the one. I thought it was James Garner’s best performance in a western, though the film as a whole is pretty average.

Watch Seven Kings Must Die. The final installment of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. This time, it’s a 1h50m movie to tie up the loose ends.

I thought it was pretty good.

Smokey and the Bandit II

Was actually better than I had remembered. The original and this sequel are by no means great movies but they do scratch that nostalgia itch for me.

A grey, wet, miserable day today. We are bunkered down inside with the fire going and reading but I just noticed this is on the telly in a bit over 30 minutes.

AS a former soldier (and Tanker) I can say with some authority that this is a far more accurate depiction of WWII than Fury.

Kelly’s Heroes is one of the few movies I actually own on DVD and will watch just about any time anywhere. :sunglasses:

I haven’t watched Smokey & The Bandit since I was a young man - “when we get home I’m gonna smack your Momma in the mouth - cos there ain’t no way you came from my loins!”

Smokey and the Bandit were just the right kind of cheesy comedy action for the 80s. I enjoyed them immensely back then, caught them on cable numerous times.
Not sure if I would ever rewatch them at this point, though.

a great movie … “just stop hitting me with them negative waves”

I watched the movie a few years back, and while I felt entertained, it was also kinda cringe.
