What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

US IT crowd pilot was leaked it seems - never knew

I’ve seen a lot of those clips before and yeah, it was NOT funny despite using the same script!
While writing is profoundly important, it’s not the only important thing. Casting is obviously as well.

The US IT crowd was an abomination. The origional was one of my favorite things to watch. “Employee of the month” is my favorite episode. Between the guys giving Jen “The Internet” to Douglas breaking up with April… laughed so hard!

I hate to say it, but US adaptations of British comedy shows don’t really work… something gets lost in the ‘translation’?

The only one they have pulled off (IMHO) is The Office. And for me that is primarily because of Steve Carell. Although I love Ricky Gervais, he makes me laugh and cringe at the same time… Steve is much easier to watch.

My mum calls me ricky. I’m apparently the exact same as him

The only thing I know about The Office is some of the actors in it, The HR guy’s name is Toby, and there’s a CPR training scene that is apparently very funny.

How do I know this? Because I’m an HR guy and I’m in the middle of getting people signed up so I can teach CPR/First Aid/AED classes and I’m regaled with this 50 times a day and if I hear it again I might snap. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

But The IT Crowd is winderful. :grinning:

As someone who’s worked that exact same job on the west side of the Atlantic, they got it spot on.

I’ve heard for actors who’ve worked in SF films and TV and done the convention circuit that Galaxy Quest serves as one of the biggest in-jokes for them, it hits multiple nails squarely on the head.

Tonight we start our countdown of Christmas movies, this year starting with ‘Elf’. It is probably the only Will Ferrell movie my wife likes. This movie is negotiable and usually decided ‘best two out of three’ rock-paper-scissors. I’m glad I won this year. SWMBO’s choices were all 1950’s classics or tear jerkers, and “I need a laugh”.

Tomorrow night (Christmas Eve) we have ‘Blackadders Christmas Carol’.

At some stage during Christmas day I will retreat into the man cave to digest lunch and watch ‘Die Hard’.

And in the evening we will all sit down and watch National Lampoon’s ‘Christmas Vacation’.

My wife raised her kids watching “Jingle all the way”, “national lampoons” and the ginch.

Visually, it looks like they have nailed it…

I will probably re-sub my Prime account just for this?

Tagging @Victork2 because I know you are a bit of a Fallout fan

I’m extremely cautious about this. It, from the trailers looks absolutely fricking amazing. But after the complete horror show that was HALO. I’m cagey.

I’m also extremely excited about the upcoming 40k series with henry cavill (shut up. I do not have a man crush) but again, halo really burned me.

I was trying to explain to my wife why I hated it so much but she just didnt understand. It was like it was so…ignorant of the source material. Completely.

I hope that fallout isnt. I’m not bothered if it tells a new story in the universe, i just want it to feel like fallout 3. Or even 2…

The HALO series was :poop: I am convinced that nobody involved with that show had even played a minute of any of the games… It should be expunged from existence.

It has Todd Howard on-board so I am cautiously optimistic for Fallout. I think it will have to be a new ‘story’ because it sure looks a lot like F3 including ‘Megaton’… but is set in the ruins of Los Angeles

And why am I just finding out about a 40K series with Henry Cavill (I do have a man crush)…

Mate, if it feels like fallout. I’m all in. A new story in that universe is a great thing.

Don’t even get me started on Halo. I’ve had a couple of of beers and once i get a head of steam on about it I’ll not stop. The only thing that they got right were the elites. They were genuinely cool. But the rest of it can suck it. A case study on taking your source material, ignoring ALL of it and making something so crap that the fans hate it AND everyone else hates it because its fricking stupid.

Yes. The 40k with cavill. Looks like its going to be amazing. He’s producing it himself with apparently complete autonomy. It could be epic. Especially if it revolves around the horus heresy like is rumoured.

Please tell your wife that I am sorry :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I saw the new Hunger Games movie over the weekend. 3 hours long, but good. I recommend.

The halo show is another example of, if they didn’t link it to the video game it would have been a good standalone series… standard super soldier verses alien invasion sort of thing

But you have a hard time pleasing fans of large video game franchises … even something as good as the Witcher had fan problems with the rivet counter game enthusiasts

Over the holidays we watched Rebel Moon

Not bad…, I must admit after hearing some negative views I went in with low expectations, but IMHO it’s not bad … there are a lot of influences you can spot from other films, it does lean heavily on the magnificent seven and battle beyond the stars

Hopefully the second part will expand some of the characters more
