What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Yeah! I enjoyed it as well. Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun enough couple of hours. Charlie hunnam is a great actor but with a comically bad irish accent. I look forward to part 2

Watched Ridley Scotts Napoleon the other day. Meh. No tension, no story, no strategy, tactics or politics of any interest. Competent film making however, the pictures were very nice, lovely sets, excellent actors but no writing whatsoever.

Agree… And some of the battles are literally completely wrong.
What a delusion…

Indeed! Please tell me you’ve watched “The gentlemen” one of Guy Ritchie masterpieces
Charlie does an amazing support role to Matthew McConaughey

So many replies, though I might as well wrap them up in one post.

Cool, that has been on my list. Might have to give it a watch?

Snyder makes great ‘cartoons’. Not really any original ideas, there was one scence that couldn’t have been more obvious if a sign saying “Mos Eisley Cantina” was hanging over the bar. But it was well done for what it was.

I think that the battle scenes explaining Sofia Boutella’s backstory had an almost 40K vibe to them.

Bugger, I had been looking forward to this. I like Scott’s film making and Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favourite actors. If anyone hasn’t seen this then they must:

Most definitely. Up there at equal first with Snatch for me.

I said that to the Mrs. Even the uniforms and the whole “kingdom” felt extremely grim dark to me…not complaining, just felt very very "for the emperor

This is why, upon reflection, that I am worried about the 40K series, even if Cavill is a huge fan-boi.

I am struggling to think how they will be able to satisfy anyone even remotely interested in the lore and make the grimdark future that is the warhammer universe accessible to a wider audience.

I also think that starting with the Horus Heresy would be a mistake… It is way too ‘dense’ for an intro? But then again, explaining a lot of 40K will be difficult without going back to 30K?

there is an awful lot of lore to squeeze into a series, and that is just the imperium of man, let alone the xenos scum , it will be interesting to see how and what Cavil focuses on. and is it going to be R rated enough for the Dark eldar :smiling_imp:

I dont think you could ever truely put the horror of that universe onto the screen effectively enough. Its just so completely bonkers and dark that it ends up being almost farcical.

If they focused on the Empire, the hunt for STC’s, the warp and the space hulks. I think it could hook a few people. Orks as well would be horrible yet humorous enough to keep people watching if done right

Start delving into the dark eldar, chaos gods and all the REALLLLLLLLLLY mental stuff, i don’t think you could squeeze enough exposition in to explain it.

Imagine trying to explain the Drukhari in a flashback or a ten min start of an episode. There is too much info. You can’t just say “they like hurting things” and leave it at that, slaanesh, the webway, the eldar. God its endless.

Keep it tight on the emperor, stomp around and wreck some genestealers. Explain the stagnation and the need to find the STC’s and the rot and hellish existence in the hive cities and show a few factions and the hint at the darkness in the warp and it will be a monster of a series 1.

I think it will have to be R rated even without them. It will be impossible to portray even the mildest of Dark Eldar ‘activities’ without it being “refused classification” here.

Exactly. You can’t even write about what those dirty gits get up to :laughing:

When I read that, I heard “woof woof” in a Dutch accent and not Donald Sutherland :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Phoenix is pretty good in it. Depends what you want out of the film.

I have an interest in the peninsula war,/campaign, which was completely missing, and on to Waterloo (which was done in about 3 minutes). Given that films have been made about that one battle, you get the idea…. Exploding round shot cannonballs were my facepalm moment.

If you ignore the gaps/holes, realise it’s loosely based on some history and watch it for entertainment it’s ok.

Might be a pass for me in that case…
