Le Mans 66 arrived yesterday and I watched it this evening. A really well made film. Thanks again @Victork2 for bringing it to our attention. The cast was superb, great storytelling and very high production values. It looks and sounds fantastic on 4K UltraHD. It doesn’t pull any punches. Highly recommended.
@Snowy55 glad you enjoyed it. A superb film. I’m only annoyed that it slipped under the radar for so long!
I just had to buy Top Gun Maverick… Less than a tenner in 4K on Amazon prime.
Cheers @Victork2. This thread is great for movie recommendations. With so much quantity over quality nowadays it is really helpful.
In Harm’s way on Amazon Prime.

Calling all 2000ad nerds in mudspike
Rogue trooper movie on the horizon… this was my favourite character from the 2000ad comic… even surpassing Judge Dread. This sounds very interesting
OMGOMGOMG…
I’m sure that at least one or two of my 2000AD annuals are still in ‘safekeeping’ at my parents. I might have to see about getting them returned?
100% CGI won’t bother me if the story is good. e.g. Angels of Death has quite average cgi and is very stylised, basically the only colour is red and everything else is black and white. But it is carried by the story and is true to the source material. Ace, if you haven’t seen this then you must.
Started watching Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
3 episodes in and I am ectstatic! Some good ol’ Western Hero worshipping! Great storytelling… I love it!
@Troll Thanks for the tip. I have decided to have a ‘rest day’ today and was looking for something binge worthy.
I do like a good western… and this is very good
Picked up tickets for the re-release of Dune part 1 in IMAX next weekend. I missed it last time around because kids, so I’m pretty stoked.
You’ll love it I’m sure. It had me hooked from the opening black screen and the eerie quote in Harkenen (correction: Sardukar). The soundscape is as amazing as the visuals. Also, it runs the story quite closely to, or at least something of an homage to, the original film which for me was a pleasant surprise.
Yeah. You are definitely in for a treat.
The book has been a favourite since I was a teen, I have now seen this film version twice and read the book again only recently in anticipation of Part 2.
I JUST finished re-reading it myself- it’d been since high school.
And if I have time, I’ll rewatch the David Lynch version (I think it’s on HBO Max right now).
I wish I could watch that as Lynch intended, rather than the disjointed mess that it became after the studio insisted he leave nearly half of it on the editing/cutting room floor.
The 2000 mini series with William Hurt is closer to the book because of that and if you can get over the average CGI and sub-par acting it is worth a watch.
Personally, I would just enjoy Villeneuve’s vision on IMAX and not be disappointed while the book is still fresh in your memory.
Oh yeah, I’d managed to mostly forget that one. I’ll have to look for it. I vaguely remember watching the Lynch version, but it must’ve been back in the 80s.
The Lynch version has a better score and a lot more cheese that makes it stupid fun.
It’s also endlessly quotable.
“Arrakis. Dune. Desert planet.”
“I will kill him!”
“He’ll know, he’ll know! That is it I, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, who encompasses his doom!”
“Tell me of the waters of your homeworld, Usul.”

1960’s Kung Fu movies-with better voice dubbing than them, meets Die Hard, meets John Wick. Or in other terms, just another indestructible one man wrecking crew movie. Nothing new or unique about the movie.
Imo, This movie is one for you to wait to watch on a streaming service for which you already pay monthly subscription fees.
