What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Bee Keeper is stupid, but I had a blast. Very satisfying if you manage to switch your brain off.

So what you’re saying is it’s a Jason Statham movie?

In my mind, somewhere in Hollywood, there’s a writer’s room where every now and again, somebody pops their head in the door and says, “guys, Jason Statham wants a new movie!” And they get to work snorting piles of c0ke, chasing it with Jaeger bombs, and start tossing out random nouns that could be job titles to use as the title. Then build a movie from there, using their ready-made Jason Statham Mad Libs script template.

I will watch that. I’m a bit of a fan of Jason, probably because I’m a fan of dumb action movies… and he knows how to not take himself seriously (e.g. The Spy).

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I love Statham movie and other movies that are just non-stop violence like we had in the 80’s and 90’s (we used to call em D*k flix). They’re just not known for depth of story or character development. Then again, they’re not made to be. He’s the modern Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Careful, I watched a Steven Seagal movie last weekend (Above the Law) and it was great! But don’t mind me, I also eat a Taco Bell every once in a while…

ROFLMAO! Agree 100%

Especially about that “The Spy” movie. I was literally ROFLing every time he spoke.

The Spy was great because it understood what audience expectations are and played with them intelligently.
The Beekeeper has done well because although it’s a formula film it was well executed. Nothing new, just popcorn entertainment done with caring that it’s going to be good popcorn entertainment.

Too many of those films have been made, however, that were obviously cynical cash grabs.

My favourite Statham is still Crank where he has to keep his adrenaline up or die. Such fun XD

I laughed so hard during that. Brilliant film.

I’m rarely a drama-watching person but I enjoyed the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders. After that it kinda went meh for me.

Recently (the past two months?) I’ve binge-watched…

  • Mandalorian S3
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Dr. House
  • Harry Potter films
  • Loki
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Blackhawk Down
  • Operation Mincemeat
  • The Man in the High Castle (on S2 I think)

…and of course keeping up with Masters of the Air.

Man in the High Castle’s ending puzzled me.
Everything was going good up until about 60 seconds before the credits…then it was just…???

High Castle had it moments but been so long since I watched that now. It had other verses to “Hitler has only got one ball” song that I had not heard :grinning:

So far I’m puzzled at Milton dealing in films instead of staplers.

I just watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny…
I thought it rocked! A bit slow, as Indy is old by now, but great fantasy and bad nazis action.

I thought that too! Is it perfect? No, sure it isn’t… But Holy heck it’s leaps and bounds better than the Crystal Skull.

I consider it one of the three great Indiana Jones movies together with Raiders and Crusade.

Edit: I am not sure if it’s connected but definitely the “Punch a Nazi” thing is always the best part.

I watched “The 12th Man” the other night with the wife. That was a great movie! What a tale of duty, endurance, and survival!

OMFG Watched “The nice guys” for the first time and it’s a pure 10/10!

SO. FREAKING. GOOD.

Fantastic chemistry between the actors and a soundtrack for the ages.
I am honestly in love with it.
