What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Wow. Walter Koenig is in it. I guess the Star Trek movies alone weren’t paying all the bills.

Was not aware this was coming back.

I usually think reboots are a load of bollocks and a sign that people don’t have any creativity any more, but if Liam Neeson is in it I might just give it a chance.

It‘s his new career:

I am slowly introducing my son Gabriel to the great movies of the 80s and 90s.

This weekend was Ghostbusters time. The first original.

He had an absolute blast. And me too at watching him. Sometimes I can be so happy I forget everything else.

If he liked Ghostbusters, Goonies next then?

Beware though, it can be a bit heart-wrenching when you re-watch one of your favourite movies from childhood / teens to discover they haven’t aged well. Especially ones that in retrospect are a bit creepy (in an ‘ick’ way)… I’m looking at you Sixteen Candles & Weird Science.

I watched the Minecraft movie on Saturday. The premise was silly but Jack Black and Jason Momoa were incredibly funny and convincing in their roles. They really saved the film. I can’t believe the actress who played the big sister to the nerdy kid is 23. She looked about 14 in the movie.

Character age is a slider in post production these days. So is other properties like muscle mass or femininity.

Holy crap am I excited for this one. All I can say is they better do it right. Something about growing up in Charlotte, in the 80s in 90s, especially in the newsroom of the Country station, put so much of that place and time of NASCAR in my soul.

If you are in the mood for just a ‘nice’ movie? Simple story, well acted and for a two hour runtime, it seemed to pass in a jiffy… You might need a box of tissues on stand-by.

If you think the world is crazy now, watch this movie - fits right in…
I thought it was great

Watched Star Wars (the first one, you know - “Episode IV: A New Hope”) last night because of the meme date. Still holds up surprisingly well, given the genre of war propaganda movies and westerns it came from.

Two possibly controversial thoughts: I still think The Empire Strikes Back was the best film in the series, and I still think Wedge and the unnamed crew of the only surviving bomber from the raid deserved medals too

And damn YES!

Empire is with out a doubt the best Star wars movie ever made. Nothing else comes close.

I thought that was a great movie… But that sort of absurd/black humour appeals to me.

Except maybe Caravan of Courage

Proof that George was making it up as he went:

In all seriousness, it is a toss up between Empire and Rogue One for me… Speaking of which, I’m loving the way they are essentially dropping a 3 episode ‘movie’ each week with the latest season of Andor. If the first 6 episodes are anything to go by, then each brings us a year closer to the Battle of Yarvin (and Rogue one).

I am not the biggest fan of TESB, I actually prefer the first one. But they are all decent movies (evennafter taking the nostalgia glasses off), and I enjoy watching them every now and then.
