Good gods, that’s such a Majestic movie…
I wish I could watch it in a theater too.
I’d been clamoring to see it again in the theater since 2003.
Need to watch my dvd again of that brilliant movie. It’s been way too long.
Not a movie, but a sitcom. Just finished the Derry Girls. Really funny comedy about teen girls growing up during the Troubles.
Made me think of a book I read as a young boy, which in some small part at least, contributed to me ending up on tanks.
It’s a fictional story of a British Matilda tank, getting seperated from their unit and ending up far behind enemy lines, after a German advance. The story then follows the crew and their tank Bert, as they try to make their way back to friendly lines.
That sounds a lot more believable than the „we‘ll send our best tank“ idea they went with here. It‘s almost like they want to fool some avid fans of WW2 into doing this today… hmm
The 4K comes out today!
■■■■■■■ amazing show. Sister Michael is my bae.
Derry girls is terrific. My daughter and I have watched it all twice. I spent a lot of time in Ireland in the mid-90s so quite nostalgic.
I also get the impression that the film studio really wanted to do something grand scale like the Battle of Kursk but that would be well beyond their budget so they have to settle for a “lone tank on a secret mission” concept.
‘Brainless juvenile humour’, ‘pants wettingly hilarious’… The reviews sum it up.
I saw this years ago, but have never been able to source a legitimate copy.
It is available now, but only if you ‘aren’t fussy’ about where you get your movies from. Fire up that VPN and do yourself a favour
A few weeks ago my family and I got sucked into Long Way Round, Ewen McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s buddy motorcycle travelogue. My wife began to resent the show because it rekindled my strong desire to get a bike (“You have enough toys trying to kill you!”). My daughter and I have since finished their 2004 Long Way Round and are now beginning the 2008 follow up, Long Way Down. (All on Apple+). The pure love these two guys have for not just one another but for the whole production team has a charm that just doesn’t get old. Also, I am 56. I get the feeling that a few other Mudspikers are old too. There is something therapeutic in seeing men like us age while the essence that makes them, them stays solid through the 20 year run of the series.
The Long Walk
This is a movie adaptation of a Stephen King novel written under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman. Considering they talked Mark Hamill into playing the Major I will likely go see it in the theater even though I do not believe it will live up to the book itself.
The Long Walk (novel)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Walk_(novel)
Set in an alternative, dystopian version of the United States, the plot revolves around the Long Walk, an annual contest in which 100 young men walk continuously along a pre-arranged route. Walkers must keep a minimum pace of 4 miles per hour (6.4 km/h), and are issued verbal warnings by soldiers monitoring their progress if they fall below this speed for 30 seconds. A walker can lose one warning if he walks for an hour without earning another. If a walker takes three warnings and falls below the minimum speed for 30 seconds, he is shot and killed by the soldiers. The Walk continues until there is only one survivor, who can have whatever he wants for the rest of his life as his prize.

I will wait until it hits streaming. There are very few King adaptations that fail to disappoint when I have also read the book… And I have read most of them.
Case in point. I am currently watching The Institute and made the mistake of reading the book when I saw it was coming up. Therefore, not only have I read the book, but just before I started watching the show. Only two episodes in but I am already finding it a bit of a slog, might have to put it on the backburner until the book isn’t so fresh in my mind.
It has literally been at least 40 years since I read the book but the instant I saw the premise I knew the story so knowing your opinion on movie adaptations of Stephen King books I may just wait for it to hit one of the streaming channels too.

Don’t let me put you off… I knew I was making a mistake by reading The Institute before watching it.
It has been ages since I have read The Long Walk as well, but another factor for us is that due to where we live, we have to pretty much set aside an entire day to go to the cinema.
While on the topic of Bachman stories and films. Were you aware that a remake of The Running Man is not far from release? Looks like it is much more faithful to the original than the Arnie version that really just shared the name and little else.
Loved the original. I really hope this is just as good, but a lot of sequels and remakes these days, make me go:
And what did you think of Naked Gun?
I have heard that Liam Neeson is really good/funny in it but overall it falls a bit flat.
I thought it was good overall…I probably wouldn’t have laughed as much if I just rented off Amazon…but in the cinema some were laughing all the way through loudly. Cinema ticket also seems to be cheaper than some of Amazons rentals prices now!
Familiar to the originals but if someone has not seen the originals then they might get more out of the silly jokes.
I watched the first episode last night and it is a lot better than I was expecting… a lot.
If you are a fan of sci-fi horror, especially the Alien franchise, IMHO it is ‘must watch’.
