Are there any horror fans around?
Just watched Caveat and kinda liked it. I think it is quite low budget movie, but quite good nevertheless. Good acting, cinematography and intriguing plot. Maybe not the best movie, but I would still recommend if after watching the trailer it interests you.
Also, a horror movie that I watched many years ago, and had to rewatch it. Must be one of the best modern horror, truly terrifying: Hereditary.
Short answer - Depends.
I am not a fan of slasher films (e.g. Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) especially teen slasher (Scream, I know what you did last summer). Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one) is an exception.
Not a fan of ‘torture porn’ (e.g. Saw).
Generally not into Zombie movies for some reason… with the exception of zombie comedy (Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland) or Zomcom (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies)

I agree on all counts. Let’s add World War Z to the liked zombie movies for me.
I guess the best horror are thriller, psychological type of movies a la Hitchcock.

That and pure ‘supernatural’ horror’… like most of Stephen King’s stories. They are probably the scariest horror stories that I have ever read.

My ideal horror: “The Shining” and sci-fi horror like “Alien”.
Horror that I stay away from: any of the gore/slasher films and especially those aimed at a younger crowd.

Fan boy here too! I have almost all his films on Blu-ray or dvd. I even like his more obscure films like “The Killing”.

I watched all 3 “terrifier” films just to see what the hype was.
The clown, is admittedly awesome. But i don’t like that stuff.

Alien Earth is fun.
Did you hear the Half-life Facehugger sound in EP1? Also the Trusty Warthog was there, as seen in the Trailer. I bet there’s a ton of references. And the Alien 1 mood is captured well without breaking immersion when it flips over to the new vibe.
The idea of kids in a bot is mind blowing, convincing and funny.

I did notice the Warthog and I like how there is not one alien but multiple different ‘specimens’ for them to deal with.

Having not seen the series since it was originally broadcast on HBO in the US, my brother and I have begun rewatching Rome. It was mentioned in this topic that there are two or three versions of the series. I’m not sure what version Max is playing now, but it is as thoroughly enjoyable as it was the first time.
It’s also bittersweet knowing that Ray Stevenson is no longer with us, his character having become iconic. Oh well, what to do but watch and celebrate as our two heroic protagonists, often unknowingly or unwillingly, navigate Caesarean Rome as it evolves into an empire.
The girls have their fun to, mostly provided by Poly Walker, in her brilliant portrayal of Atia of the Julii, resulting in a Golden Globe nomination.
One thing that both my brother and I commented on, is that even though the series was cancelled after two seasons due to its high production costs, the sets, at least in the first few episodes, don’t have near the quality or scope of more recent shows, like Game of Thrones. Still, one wonders what might have been.

I have the Blu-ray set and it’s one of my top 10 series of all time.

Oh and if I recall correctly, I remember reading somewhere that HBO was paying about 10 million dollars per episode of Game of Thrones. “Rome” was an HBO/BBC co-production so I’m sure the budget was significantly less. Where I could really see the low budget was with the recreation of the Battles of Pharsalus and Philippi.

I’ll have to check this one out. The closest movie I’ve seen to this one is “Sink the Bismarck”.
From what I have gleaned from your posts regarding your movie preferences I am fairly certain you will find it enjoyable. On a slightly different side note this movie was the first in a long list of TV and film appearances for Donald Moffet (IMDb). Some of his more recent roles before he passed were where he played Lyndon B. Johnson in the movie The Right Stuff, President Bennett in Clear & Present Danger, & Ford Frick in the movie 61*.
At the moment I do not remember if I have seen Sink the Bismarck? Knowing how many of those old movies I have seen in the last 50 years it almost has to have been one though.
