I like just about everything that Kathryn Bigelow has done. The Hurt Locker was one of my all time favourite ‘war’ movies… Until I re-watched it with an EOD Flight Sergeant who had spent a lot more time in Iraq than I did
This has been on my radar for a while now and is one of the most harrowing political/military thrillers that I have seen for a while. Even Stephen King is calling it terrifying.
Some people are criticising the way it ends, but IMHO it was the perfect finish.
Wanted to like this one more than I did, can’t quite explain it except to say something about it felt a little public service announcement, or maybe after school special-ish? Well done, with a great cast, lots of tension but in the end it didn’t do it for me (at least compared to something like “Failsafe”).
I usually like her films too, back from Near Dark (cult classic for sure!), there have been some hit or miss ones in there but even those almost all have been worth watching.
Never heard of it until now. But as soon as I read that it was by the ‘Broken Lizard’ crew and read this: “If you like Super Troopers, you’ll love this - A Fire Station full of bored lunatics and their shenanigans. Watch it Meow”.
Not going to lie, it’s very lightweight and not every episode lands 100%, BUT sometimes all you need is a light show with oddball characters and that feel-good tone when everything ends well every time. Plus there are some stroke of genius now and then which makes it all better as they are truly unexpected.
Just watched this. Pretty good, but i couldn’t shake the feeling that Dr Strangelove did it better 60 years ago. I really tried, it was definitely one of the better things I’ve watched this year. But…i just couldn’t stop thinking about Dr strangelove
Probably the movie I have watched more than any other… Must have seen it at least 20 times. And as @speck has pointed out with Failsafe, both of them probably treated the subject better.
What I think I liked most about A house of Dynamite was that it drove home the message that the fate of humanity (i.e. literally able to destroy the planet in a moment) is held by a handful of people. Currently Trump, Xi, Putin and Kim. That scares the shite out of me.
I forgot about that one! I remember watching it on HBO ages ago, maybe I’ll try check it out again.
Does anyone remember “Testament”? Early 80’s, different kind of movie for the genre but I remember watching it (on HBO I think actually) and being very affected.
I watched Zootopia 2 on Saturday and liked it. My favorite part by far? The surprising and clever references made to Silence of the Lambs and The Shining.
