Watching the old movie “A time to kill” and it’s powerfully contemporary.
It’s breaking me down though. Acting is sublime, casting super solid, and the story to bawl your eyes out.
Love it. 10/10

Watched tonight “Knives out” - I needed something lighter after “A time to kill”…
…and I was still left touched by the casting and acting. A sublime movie, deeper than it looks.
I’m guessing the first one? Agree it is a great film with a brilliant ensemble cast and IMHO it is better than the second, but I still really enjoyed that one as well. The third installment drops on Netflix tomorrow, I will be watching that before the end of this weekend.
I am not a huge fan of Daniel Craig, but I actually liked him this series. For me he is a bit like Nicholas cage - a fine actor but there is just something that doesn’t quite gel with me, some roles I like, others I hate but mostly… Meh!
Train Dreams (Netflix)
Been waiting all year and picked up Netflix just for it. Based on a 2011(?) book and set here in the PNW, it actually was shot locally and beautifully done. A friend was one of the Extras Casting folks and her first really “big” project. My daughter ended up in it and it was the second movie she worked on while taking a year off after graduating College (Mechanical Engineer).
The final scene hit me a little harder than I expected and not necessarily why you would think. No spoilers but let me know if anyone catches it and what they think. Lot of folks up here are really proud of the work and pretty excited about the buzz around it, especially with only a limited theater release and basically straight to Netflix.
I was only looking at that the other day and it is definitely on my radar, might have to elevate it to a must watch now
It is getting good reviews.
How was your daughters experience on set?
‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ with Jacob Elordi filmed a few scenes around here, primarily using the pub in Captains Flat (the closest town to us).
They put out the call for extras on the local grapevine and I thought about it, just for shits and giggles. But never gave it a go, kind of regretting it?
Yeah the first one. The second is called Glass Onion.
I want to watch it- but yeah I am painfully aware sequels are rarely as good as the original- with very very few exceptions.
If you liked the first, I think you will like Glass Onion as well.
She enjoyed it. I mean lots of waiting around but just being behind the scenes and seeing how “movie magic” happens is very interesting. She’s a pretty big fan of Joel Edgerton, thanks to “Boys in the Boat” and Felicity Jones (Rogue One) so she was REALLY excited about this one. She got to talk with Felicity about fabric arts (since my daughter always has something to work on with her at all times), and though she really wanted to chat with Joel, never really got an opportunity.
It’s a good watch still, definitely give it a shot.
If anybody wants to watch a Christmas movie that’s not ikid friendly and not a rom-com, I would recommend Fatman, which is on Netflix at the moment.
Fatman Trailer #1 (2020) | Movieclips Trailers
It’s not the highest quality movie, but has it’s funny bits and is an action movie about Christmas that isn’t Die Hard. ![]()
*DIE HARD!* ![]()

Excellent film. I’ll show my age to say that the real excitement was Wm H Macey. I love films that portray the transition between the old west and modernity. Thanks for the tip. I never would have watched otherwise.
Co-worker just sent the trailer to me today! Watched Die Hard on Saturday but I may need to sneak this one in. I’m sure it’s not awesome but it looked interesting enough for one watch at least.
Glad you liked it! It was a beautifully done film all the way around and I can agree, I probably wouldn’t have watched it either (too be fair I don’t watch a lot anyway) if it hadn’t been for those I knew working on it and then my daughter being in it.
And suddenly, there I am…summer of '69. While 'One small step for man…" was being broadcast (mom was looking for us to witness this moment in history) we were outside, under the street lamp, seeing how many June Bugs a toad would eat. There was no internet so we made do. Daylight was for ant lions. Great channel for my 10 year or self.
Channel’s too good [so far] not to pass on
^^^^ Loved that!
Also loved Dave Chappell, Netflix. I can’t say the title. But it is everything we need to … he hates the word “know” (it’s a bit) … need to “believe” in these dark times.
I watched this last might.
Puerile, childish, completely silly and I liked it… Some LOL moments from me.
Probably would have liked it more if I was a native of the British Isles. Some of the references (e.g. Blackpool) were lost on me.
As a connoisseur of British stuff, I cannot WAIT to see that. Is it streaming somewhere?
I can neither confirm nor deny that I might or might not have taken the AI tech-bro (Altman et al) approach to copyright and run up the Jolly Roger. ![]()
Fair enough. It’s available for rental on Prime.
