What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

I had never seen it and it came up in my Netflix queue so I thought I would give it a whirl. In my opinion the 5.9 rating at IMDb is a fair one.

I had the chance to see this old comedy glory.

I found absolutely stellar and a true joy to see an ensemble of so many great actors!

Admittedly it’s quite nonsensical but it’s still brilliant.

Next stop: “Arsenic and old Lace”

Yeah, it has a few good scenes but overall it is pretty mediocre.

Talking of old comedy movies:

I think this one is pretty hilarious, and even my wife agrees. Which says something because she usually both dislikes black and white movies and old comedy.

Harvey is a funny movie and Jimmy Stewart is great. He was a brigadier general in the US air force and flew 20 combat missions in B-24s in WW2.

I also learned today that there are not one, not two, but three remakes of it.
But they all suck apparently.

I read the book and it left me feeling frustrated and disappointed that once again, our State Department and military placed our sons and daughters in a dangerous and untenable situation, attempting to carry out a misguided foreign policy. Other recent examples that come to mind are Benghazi and Mogadishu.

Inglourious B**s

Summary

Inglourious Basterds (2009) - IMDb

It has an 8.3 rating on IMDb.
One of the dumbest movies I have ever had the displeasure to watch. I forced myself to watch the entire movie so my review would be based on the entire film. I will be charitable and give it a 2.9 out of 10. In my opinion the ONLY reason it rates so high at IMDB is that it is one of Tarantino’s movies.

Sadly that sums up so much of other topics, too.
Like healthcare for example. :frowning:

I have tried a couple of times to watch that film and its just so boring. There is something about it that just irritates me about the whole thing.
Not my cup of tea at all

Honestly, I really, really enjoyed it. Christoph Walz’s performance as Hans Landa was amazing, and who doesn’t like gratuitous killing of Nazis (especially this year)?

I’ve always enjoyed the long periods of inaction in Tarantino movies. The tension of his character dialog is perfect. I liked Inglorious Basterds…and The Hateful Eight and Django. I get how they could not be entertaining to some though…but I really enjoy them.

Me too, it’s a perfect Comic book super-hero nonsense crafted with precision and uncanny skill.

The mexican standoff is a pure joy to follow as are the moment of tension with Christoph Walz.

Admittedly I’m a Tarantino fan, so…

I’ve never really appreciated tarantino to be honest. I know that the rest of the world adores him and that’s cool, they just aren’t for me. Except for kill bill. I did enjoy those ones.

Man, your statement hit home today @chipwich. I saw this image on Reddit. Apparently it’s a pretty famous image but I’ve never seen it …

A young private waits on the beach during the Marine landing at Da Nang, Vietnam, August 3, 1965 …

I’ve done a bit of research but he’s pretty much an unknown soldier as far as I can tell.
