What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

Thank you Fearless.
I laughed then I cringed. Mostly laughed, the humor takes a moment to adjust but I was saved by the “Diamond Dogs”.

So…despite the fair warnings on the language - we sat down and burned through the first three episodes of this tonight. It is soooooo good. It is really well done. It doesn’t hurt that we are a “soccer” family…but you wouldn’t need to be. Can’t wait to watch the rest…

4.75 biscuits out of 5 is my rating…

What I liked about it (and you probably get a vibe for it now, but I didn’t want to spoil it before) was that a lot of the comedy is ‘positive’ rather than just cheap cynical or negative. It’s kind of odd to relish in Ted’s absolutely unsinkable positivity and the humor comes out of him being right, that makes it a fun series.

Fun fact: the character Rebecca was the woman yelling ‘Shame, shame!’ in Game of Thrones. She looks quite different in this!

Yes - his character is so disarming…and refreshing. And I like that they let on that he isn’t doing it accidentally all the time either…(though there is some of that). I love how he his mentally shaping the “patron” of the team despite him not wanting to be…it is great…

So… uhmmmmmm… I’m watching this. Nighty night, folks! :skull:

This was pretty good. Not the most original plot but decent story none-the-less and you get to see some very cool Sci-Fi hardware. Takes place in 2034 in the Ukraine. I enjoyed it.

Just started season 6 of the Andy Griffith show.

Season 6 to 8 were filmed in color. Don Knotts had left the show after season 5 due to a contract dispute over owning a percentage of the show. He did however show up 5 more times as a guest star in the last three seasons.

Yeh I liked it too, found the leads interesting characters. The ending was a tad simplistic for my taste. Having the thing turn straight-up villainous. They (and the actor) could have made something more interesting, more deeply layered of that, like they did in the rest of the movie.

The Dig on Netflix is the best thing I have seen so far this year. On the eve of WW2 a widow hires an excavator to dig into ancient mounds on her dead husband’s estate. It is a deeply human story. Slow paced. Implied sex in a side-story but kid safe. Obligatory Spitfires.

Yep. The whole notion of fighting taking place in the Ukraine and Baltics between West and East is such a plausible and deep well to draw stories from. Would really like to see more stories focused here in the future with respect to books, movies etc.

That was indeed a superb movie, both the story and the acting.

Master and Commander is on Amazon Prime until the end of the month. I’m already on my third viewing, and I’m sure I’ll watch it at least a couple more times between now and then. One of my best friends was crew on the sailing replica Endeavour, and that ship was used for the shots of Surprise rounding Cape Horn- he’s in shots here somewhere, though I haven’t been able to pick him out.

I’ve just started the second season. I think it’s worth watching. It’s a slow burn series. I like the setting in and around Rome. I’m watching the English dub version. I don’t understand Italian and don’t want to keep watching the screen for subtitles. Voice over seems okay.

The books the movie is based on are really great as well. They were written by Patrick O’Brian. Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin are some of the most interesting characters in literature and watching them develop over 21 books is amazing. The books are not non-stop action like the movie and may not be for everyone, but are some of my favorites.

So on @fearlessfrog’s recommendation, we watched the entire first season of Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso” and it was my favorite series and show of 2020 (well…also into 2021). The language had me wincing a few times with the kids watching…but the lessons of each episode were worth the wish-for-ear-■■■■ (muffffffs is in the filter…lol…) moments. It has some great, smart humor and some lump in the throat moments.

The world needs more Ted Lasso and less negativity. It is a great series and I was happy to hear that Season 2 and 3 have already been green lighted apparently…

[Edit: A buddy tells me I should finish the season before making a statement like that. So I’ll keep at “I really like Ted Lasso. Great show! Thanks for the recommendation!”]
