The beginning of the books is really similar to LotR, the show makes it a bit less obvious.
The series as a whole is somewhere between LotR and Game of Thrones.

I never read the books, but the first three eps of this have my curiosity roused. Looks like a fun series of books.
Ironically, I’m the one that linked the series here, but haven’t been able to watch the episodes yet. Hope they’re good.
It is a good series and it’s better now that it’s finished. I started reading the series in 1990 or so. And the series only finished relatively recently. They are huge books and a lot of them. Be careful before you start. ![]()
You’re old. ![]()
The series finished, like, eight years ago.
But yeah I also started reading it in the 1990s.
8 years ago…as i said…relatively recently. ![]()
The episodes are VERY condensed.
The books are a bit long winded, style-wise near Tolkien. Lovely though, my favourite book series.
I have read them three times and I am currently listening to the audiobooks with my wife (her first time).
Just finished the first season of Foundation.
I liked that as a fan and multiple-time reader of the books I didn’t know everything that was going to happen. The Vault, yes. Anacreon, yes. Demerzel, to a partial extent.
But what happened with Hari, Gaal, and Salvor? The clone rulers? Relatively recent “Robot Wars”? All new and as someone who’s not a stickler for book accuracy they were welcome changes.
Of course who knows when we’ll get S2 but at least we will get it.
Now I have to watch the S2 finale of See and then I’m done with my Apple TV+ watching for now and on to Wheel of Time.
I’ve enjoyed the hell out of Foundation. Now I am belatedly discovering the books and respect the television effort all the more. The Unofficial podcast has been an entertaining side show as well.
Linky please! I enjoyed the show, and I felt it got better as it went along to the extent I didn’t want the first season to finish and then have that 10 month wait…
These Old Broads:
Written by Carrie Fisher, who has a cameo as a hooker in a holding cell. She still looked pretty good considering she was 45 at the time…
The movie basically takes a lot of the tragedies in Debbie and Carrie’s lives and turns it into a comedy. I personally just wanted to see Liz and Debbie in a movie again so I was not expecting much from it. I found it entertaining and would watch it again.

Latest episode is a wrap-up interview with the show’s creator.
Also really enjoying “The Billion Dollar Code” on Netfix. Great insight on how much of the brilliance that girds information technology and the internet comes from people who got screwed or duped out of their intellectual property.
After the first four episodes I am still immensely enjoying Wheel of Time.
In fact the episodes seem to get better and better.
The first one was the weakest by far.
The story is somewhat different to the books but I like it a lot.
I saw this Wednesday and boy, was I transported back to my youth and the feelings of the first 2 Ghostbusters.
It is a fitting sequel created with love and caring, with a compelling story with scares, laughs and tears of joy. The score is just on the money.
I had a great time.
There are two end credit sequences.
They are opening up for another one, but if they do one or more, I hope that they stick to the recipe as they did with this one.
If you loved the first 2 Ghostbusters, you shouldn’t miss this one.
Glad to hear they finally got one right @DanTDBV. ![]()

Red Notice
Really wanted to like this movie but it ended up just being average. Plot twists were easily spotted and Ryan’s humour mostly fell flat.

Not to mention that the title is swiped off an excellent book about an early post-soviet investor who fell out of favor with the Putin regime—resulting in the death of his attorney in prison.
The Beatles: Get Back
Seeing the 4 of them as they were in 1969 is pretty neat. That wore off in less than 30 minutes into the first episode and it has been a chore to remain interested. I am only halfway through the second episode and I keep falling asleep. The show may hold the rapt attention of a die hard Beatles fan but I suspect they are going to be the exception and not the norm.

Watched Ad Astra last week.
If you’re looking for a good scifi movie, well this isn’t it… First, it has Brad Pitt in it and I’m not a fan of his, but it also has Liv Tyler - so I watched. CGI was well done. Unfortunately, there must have been a writers strike when the movie was made due to lack of a story, plot, good dialog, etc.
