My car is powering an F-14… Nicholas Dakard in the pit…
nearblind makes noises of girlish excitement
also tell Nick to answer my darned q&a questions
Edit: thirdly be careful. Engines on those early tomcat have a tendency to explode!
Is anyone not making these noises?
I’m issuing a steady stream of obscenities that I’m not there right now.
Cykas tomcat goes Cyka BLYAT
I hope your son understands he might actually have the coolest dad in the world.
I’m sure he thinks I’m a complete dork. Well, maybe not yet (he’s 7), but in a few years…yeah…King Dork.
I’m impressed!
I’ve seen two. The first was at Pensacola, and while I don’t remember it being this clean, I don’t remember it being bad either.
The one in Tilamook had clearly been cannibalized before getting sent off to the museum. Buttons, displays, whole panels had been ripped out.
That one (minus the radio plaque on the right side) is a work of Bethpage art.
Well keep in mind - this is the separated cockpit section that is completely restored. It is mobile too, so it can be taken to events and things…but the guy that restored it was there, and you could tell this was his baby. It is really, really nice. The full static display F-14 is beautiful as well, but is outside getting weathered by the elements. And you can’t see in the cockpit of that one - so no telling what the condition of that one is…
Looking at the image. I really, really regret that I didn’t hit the “too close for missiles, switching to guns” toggle switch on that stick. I was just so in awe of how comfy that pit was that I forgot to mess around…plus, if I fulfilled all my fantasies…that would have delayed the F-14 module by at least 24 to 48 hours…LOL…and I couldn’t do that to you guys…
Pcola has one of these as well, which is also an A pit.
They’ve also got an A on a stick, and a whole D on display. The Oregon one is a whole F-14A that you couldn’t actually sit in, but they had a flight of stairs you could climb to look into it.
Just make sure when you said “I’m hitting the brakes, he’ll fly right by”, you moved the throttle backwards instead of slamming it into full AB.
This from on my way to work this morning. I’ve enjoyed this commute for 12 years now. Many days there is no one in front or in back.
You are all wrong, the missile needs those wheels for when it wants to land.
That’s awesome, we don’t tend to get the same sense of scale on this side of the atlantic. My commute is somewhat different…
It’s not always this eirily quiet. Had to check to see if I’d missed a public holiday.
It looks like zombies are going to come down that hill at any second…
These words arouse me, it’s a fine fine concept!
It’s gutted… Atleast 99% of the time it is when they do that for static displays unfortunately. Aircraft preservation has a lot of… flaws. It’s about as expensive to properly prepare and display them as it is for just storing a functional aircraft. It always hurts a little to see the decay.
Nice 21 suit, the always look very space-y compared to the US flight suits.
