I’ll be buying the next Gen of X-Plane when it comes out no matter what…but the teasers have been a bit underwhelming with regards to graphics improvements. There is so much good about X-Plane 11 with regards to flight dynamics and performance (at least for me)…that it already has selling points for the next version. The focus really does need to be on ATC (including AI traffic), weather, multiplayer (including shared cockpits), and overall default ground scenery (at the very least a base of somewhat good looking ortho…).
My X-Plane play still vastly outweighs my MSFS play.
I will buy the next X plane at some point. Not sure it will be release though. There are 4 planes in the pipeline that would make that decision for me.
Rotate MD-11
Tollis A340
Inibuild A380
FF B787
If any of the above come out on X plane next then I would wait to purchase next until that plane was ready.
Right now my concern is my ever growing fleet started in X plane 10, It may be very very costly to continue said fleet in x plane next.
The big thing for me would be backwards compatibility with XP11 aircraft without the compromises we had to deal with when XP11 came out regarding XP10 aircraft.
Personally I don’t care too much about ATC because I don’t use it when simming.
I heard a little tidbit about Austin from a friend of his recently. It was an anecdote about how Austin was showing off a feature he’d been working on (I assume this was during last year’s engine changes). Austin was flying over totally generic terrain. No trees. No textures. No nothing. As he enthusiastically explained the changes he noted the lack of commensurate thrill in the room. Someone explained that the lack of scenery was jarring. Austin simply doesn’t care. His goal is absolute FM perfection. Fortunately Bret and others are there to appeal to a market which values “pretty” as well as “accurate”. I was unable to glean anything about XP12 from this person. I don’t even know how much he really knew, if anything. But I reading between the lines I think we can expect an improved visual experience but one that will fall short of the new standard set by MSFS. We’ll have to wait until the end of the year.
Interesting. I’m personally probably going to support and get the next version for that reason alone, keep him in the game lifting the standard…but I do hope they are able to update the graphics over time too, to remain relevant.
That’s some fairly underwhelming stuff. The levy has breached and fans are floating away in the flood. If Austin and Ben want to stem the tide then they need to do some honest communicating now regarding where this sim is going. Most people are not going to fill a SSD with content for both XP and MSFS. They don’t have the room or the cash to do that. They will pick a sim and stick with it until the next big thing. Were it not for helicopters and superior fixed wing dynamics I would have left months ago.
Well I like the Jar design planes I believe the toliss one will put it to shame. I still fly the Jar a330. Toliss should be here before Christmas so If you can wait, I would but if you can’t, the jar a340 would be great too.
But they are different planes with one being a 500 and the other being 600
I dont use VR but i think there was or is and issue with the EFB. You have to type all the info in before going into VR since there isnt a virtual keyboard or something.
Well…I find myself flipping up my VR headset once in awhile to find my beer or wine glass anyway… So I can probably do a bit of typing while I’m out of VR. Really considering getting one of their Airbuses’es’ss for my cargo outfit…
