X-Plane 11 Screens

Awesome, thanks. :+1:

That looks pretty good! Until recently I had stuck with SkyMaxx because it seemed to do low altitude stuff really well (bush flying), but it was a bit of a graphics hog. Those shots you posted look good for bush flying too. I’m hoping ActiveSky XP comes up with some good stuff in the near future.

If memory serves, that press release said to avoid using xE in VR. On the patch list though.

Well that explains it then  . I need to start reading release notes and manuals.

Does air hauler work with xp11 now? Have I missed something as I thought that was p3d only…im both confused and excited by this post

You can get it working with the help of this …

It’s not ideal, and you have to manually insert the parameters for each of your aircraft every time you start a new company. It also has some issues with the relationship between MGTOW, Fuel Weight and cargo weight. Still, with some trial and error, you can get it to where your aircraft have a good enough fuel load and carrying capacity. I highly recommend starting a spreadsheet to store these parameters for easy reference.

I had an extremely enjoyable evening!! downloaded a few freeware planes from Xplane.org and wasnt really expecting a lot but i ended up finding some complete gems!!

im sure the more experienced among us will find flaws with the models and such but for a cheap evening of messing around i had a great deal of fun!!

im open to recommendations as well…(this screenshot collection kind of shows what i’m into!)

i’ve also fallen in love with the king air c90 that ships with xp11. such a lovely thing to fly. im seriously considering buying the 350 next.

a great night !

Especially for @Victork2… The AoA RV8.
It’s not bad, but at the same time not earth shattering either. I purchased the taildragger/tricycle gear bundle. The Taildragger can be a handful to taxi, but easy enough to land so long as you stay off the brakes. I bet a real one would be a lot of fun to fly!

Funnily enough @PaulRix… Look what I was playing with earlier!

Awesome! Beautiful little airplane… how was the flight model?

Accurate! Lol

I’ve got a few hours in RV-8s and it’s really a great airplane. Very balanced and very light on the controls. Aerobatic, 200 mph, and with good legs. Also a favorite build of Delta captains, judging by what I see at fly-ins. Most are beautifully constructed.

I’m actually Considering building one… I know… I know… Its crazy… But I have never been known for my sense…

I began building one, finished the empennage, but before ordering the fuselage, my wife had a serious chat with me about the time that I was spending on the project. She knew how much I loved flying, but we were getting close to starting a family and needed to make that a priority.

I had a couple of friends who had built RVs, one of them with kids. But his offspring were older and they could come down in the basement and help him work on it. Side note: he ended up having to jack up the house so that he could take out a wall to get the thing out  So it wasn’t like he checked out and went to the airport to build, like I was doing.

I think every now and then about building one again. But, when I look at the time commitment, I’m still not there. A lot of RVs have been made, so you can find plenty for sale. If you take your time, you can find a really good one for sometimes less than what the builder has in it. The tech representative at the EAA chapter that I used to frequent sold his RV-7A for $55k. It was as nicely finished as any that I’ve seen. White with beautiful dark red trim, gray and red leather interior, full IFR panel, sliding canopy, and every rivet driven to perfection. It didn’t last long.

If you have the time, then there are few pursuits in life that match flying an airplane that you built with your hands. And there are lots of people around to lend a hand. I’ve bucked plenty of rivets for other builders, just to be part of the creative process. There might be a cheeseburger and a beer involved too. No big deal if you mess up a rivet or two, because there are another 20 or 30 thousand of them holding the plane together

My wife said if I fail to get my multi engine and ifr tests in next 5 years and can’t be a commercial pilot she will help me build one. But I’d prefer to fly commercial anyway and then build a plane when I retire lol
thanks @chipwich that’s really interesting to read

Don’t lose sight of the goal, keep plugging away and never give up even if you feel like you are not getting any closer to achieving it. Pep talk over  .

@Victork2 got me intrigued about higher performance home built aircraft such as the RV8 by AoA, which is fun to fly although a little rough around the edges when it comes to texturing and detail. I’m still going to get my money’s worth from it, but I had a hankering for something more. Adopting @Franze’s philosophy of “you can’t spend it when you are dead”, I went ahead and bought the TorqueSim Pocket Rocket.

This Ladies and Gents, is a lot of fun to fly! A light airframe, coupled with a 680 SHP PT6 means there is no shortage of power. The airplane is very fast, climbs like a homesick angel but can also fly approaches at slow airspeeds allowing you to operate comfortably at airfields with shorter runways. Because of it’s speed, it is also a decent touring airplane, and has decent range. Avionics wise, it has the G1000, with the same synthetic vision as the HotStart TBM900 (they licensed this from HotStart evidently)…

The 3D modeling is of a high standard, and it comes with a number of liveries (some better than others I have to say, but some of them are quite good). Oh, and just as with the RV8, you get two versions, a taildragger (fixed) and tricycle gear, which is retractable. I’ll write more after I have flown it a bit more, but even at this point I can definitely recommend it.

@PaulRix that’s just gorgeous! I’m. Buying the RV8 for sure and this will be next. What a beauty.

My advice FWIW, would be to get the Pocket Rocket first. Of course, if your heart is set on the RV8 then you will definitely enjoy it (it is a fun to fly)… The Pocket Rocket though, is in a different league from a production quality side of things. It looks great, flies great, the avionics are better (synthetic vision is very impressive)… and the sound of the flyby at max power  . I really should thank you for sparking an interest in self build experimental aircraft. I’ll never build one myself, but I have to admit that I found myself looking at at the Trade-a-Plane website to see what a second hand RV8 would set me back.

Indeed, judging by your screens. That thing looks like something Mike Patey would build.
